Drumstick leaves are widely used leafy vegetable of South India. These leaves contain amino acids viz. Aspartic acid, Glutamic acid, Serine and Glycine. The leaves are highly nutritious, being a significant source of beta carotene, Vitamin C, protein, iron and potassium. It is an excellent source of iron, hence recommended during pregnancy. Leaves increase semen (sukrala), expel worms (krimighna), relieve constipation and anemia, improves vision and augment breast milk production. Juice of leaves can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus (Bhawasar et.al). These leaves are extremely useful in lowering hypertension. Drumstick leaves can be boiled in water, fried in ghee and taken with food in postnatal care.
