Benefits of Indian Sorrel ::
Plants in Ayurveda

Sanskrit name : Changeri
Scientific name : Oxalis corniculata
Indian Name : Tiinpattiya

Indian sorrel is a delicate appearing creeping herb with trifoliate leaves and has three small heart shaped leaflets. It has been used traditionally since several years and has many medicinal properties. The most important constituent of this plant is the oxalic acid from which its name is derived. This plant is also a good source of Vitamin C.

Indian Sorrel is antimicrobial and antifungal, and has wound healing properties. It is also used to reduce heart rate, for stomach, liver, skin and eye disorders. Crushed leaves are used as antidote for scorpion stings. The sour leaves kindle digestion and therefore helpful in loss of appetite.

Though widely found, it is used as leafy vegetable mostly in South Indian regions where it is used in the form of chutney and with daal.
